Conservatism Falls Short

Dear Calvary Family,

Most of us rejoice and celebrate the growing conservative movement in our colleges and beyond. Born-again believers standing arm in arm with conservative unbelievers for better government is good for the nation, but don’t confuse it with revival.

Revival comes from a new birth—a new heart. It involves death to the old life, even a good, conservative, clean-living, Midwestern, Republican-leaning old life. The moral difference between a left-leaning Antifa supporter and a law-abiding Virginia homeschooling mom may be tremendous, but both could equally end up in hell—even though the homeschooling mom may be much better for our community.

In John chapter 3, we will study the story of Nicodemus. He came to Jesus at night, acknowledged that Jesus was a good teacher, and recognized that God was with Him. Most pastors and teachers of our day would have drooled over a conservative community leader secretly admiring their church’s mission for God.

Jesus did not affirm conservative Nicodemus in his lost condition but shared with him the same hope offered to the thief on the cross, the demon-possessed, and the hated tax collectors: you must be born again.

While we, as the leadership team at CCF, highly encourage you to join the current movement to cast your vote for moral, honest constitutionalists for governmental offices, don’t confuse this movement with true revival—a revival of a culture where the church of the living God is experiencing the new birth found only in Christ.
