Pastor’s Perspective: Your Choice
Dear Calvary Family,
On Sunday we will study the final chapter of Joshua. He gives his parting words of admonition and dies. The line that has stood out throughout the pages of history since this writing in about 1375 BC is in verse 15 “…choose for yourselves today whom you will serve…but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
This verse speaks to all Israel but includes Joshua’s personal commitment to be responsible for his own household. It really is a decision to personally serve the Lord, but can we commit our household to do the same? How much Biblical authority do we have over our own household? To what degree is the leadership of the home responsible for the health of the home, the church, a state, a nation?
May we seek the Lord and His Word to instruct us in disciplining the next generation. May we rise to the calling to shepherd our homes according to the holy Word of God. May we embrace the God-given authority as parents and join Joshua in the cry of faith, as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. May the Lord bring healing to the home broken by neglect, rejection, adultery or abuse. We must turn to God and love our spouse and unite to glorify God in this most urgent calling.
Our next Sunday morning study, beginning May 11th , will be the book of Galatians. Join me in prayer for this Mother’s Day gathering that could be a game changer for generations to come!
This Sunday is family Sunday! There will be no meal, but we are looking forward to having the children join us in the sanctuary.
See you on Sunday!
